What is a Ductless Heat Pump?
Unlike traditional heat pump systems, ductless or mini-split heat pump systems provide heating and cooling without the need for ductwork. Traditional heat pumps are already extremely efficient compared to other HVAC systems but ductless heat pumps take this efficiency a step further.
Despite the undeniable convenience of centralized heating and cooling, centralized systems using ductwork are prone to significant energy waste due to leaks and gaps in duct connections.
In fact, the U.S Department of Energy reports more than 30% of the energy required to condition a space can be lost due to inefficiencies in the ductwork. Energy Star corroborates these findings, reporting that approximately 20 to 30 percent of the air passing through a duct system is lost.
